Columbia, SC - Columbia’s Canalside District just welcomed a vibrant new addition to its community: Vibez Coffee, a spacious and stylish Black-owned café that officially celebrated its ribbon cutting this afternoon.

The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of family, friends, city leaders, and supporters who gathered to mark the beginning of what promises to be one of Columbia’s most inviting new spots.

Founder and CEO Eric Archer shared his vision with heartfelt emotion, reflecting on the journey that brought Vibez Coffee to life. He described the shop as more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee—rather, it’s designed to be a welcoming, creative space where people can gather, be inspired, and feel at home.

Archer credited his late mother as the driving force behind the dream, recalling how she moved into the building above the café in 2021, steadfast in her belief that the shop would one day open. Fighting back tears, Archer told the crowd, “I know she’s here with us today. We get to see this dream come to fruition.”

Councilman Ed McDowell also spoke, praising Vibez Coffee as a powerful example of African-American entrepreneurship thriving in Columbia.

“This is a unique opportunity for us to celebrate not only a new business, but the kind of vision that enhances the lives of our people,” McDowell said.

Inside, Vibez Coffee offers plenty of room to relax, work, or host gatherings. Archer emphasized that the shop is meant for more than coffee runs—it’s a space for meetings, Bible studies, book clubs, or simply connecting with friends.
