Columbia, SC — In a moment that has rocked the South Carolina political landscape, State Representative Hamilton Grant has emerged as a moral anchor, courageously demanding the immediate removal of Rep. RJ May following his arrest on 10 federal counts of distributing child sexual abuse material. According to federal investigators, the charges involve the online sharing of at least ten videos of children via the app Kik — a platform often scrutinized for its use in illicit activity.

“This is the absolute worst of the worst,” said Rep. Grant in an official statement released June 12. “If proven true, this is an abomination that requires swift and decisive action—not political hedging.”
Rep. Grant, a devoted father, community leader, and man of deep faith, used his platform not for political grandstanding but for a resounding call to justice, accountability, and compassion for victims. As the South Carolina Republican Party remained notably silent, Grant called on Governor Henry McMaster to act swiftly to remove Rep. RJ May from office, stating that his continued presence in the House is “an insult to the integrity of this body and to the public trust.”
His statement went beyond condemnation—it was a sermon, a rallying cry, and a legislative call to action. He highlighted House Bill 3038, the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights, as a commonsense step the General Assembly can take to begin protecting vulnerable children and survivors of abuse. The bill, introduced by Democratic Representatives Kambrell Garvin, Heather Bauer, and Gilda Cobb-Hunter, has been stalled—ignored, as Grant noted, by a Republican majority.
“Let this moment be a wake-up call. Pass H.3038. Protect children. Support survivors.”
While others scramble to spin or obscure, Hamilton Grant stood firm, placing moral clarity above political convenience. His message to fellow legislators was simple but searing: “Set aside the politics and stand for what is right.”
Hamilton Grant: A Representative for the People

Rep. Hamilton Grant’s reputation as a father, a church servant, and a public servant was not built on press releases or power plays. It was earned in the pews, on the playgrounds, and in the halls of underserved communities. In a state where political loyalty often eclipses moral duty, Grant chose truth and justice.
His message to parents was tender but urgent: “The trauma you now face is beyond comprehension. I pray that, through time, therapy, and community, you find healing—even though we all know there is no easy road ahead.”
The Bigger Picture
As South Carolina faces a defining moral moment, the response from its leaders will be remembered. Will the General Assembly act on behalf of children, or will they retreat behind partisanship? Will they silence voices like Hamilton Grant’s, or finally begin to listen?
What is clear is this: evil that preys on children cannot be tolerated—not in silence, not in political cowardice, and not behind closed doors.
Thanks to Rep. Hamilton Grant, the line has been drawn.
“No law can undo that kind of damage. But the right laws can prevent it. And that’s our responsibility.” – Rep. Hamilton Grant
