By Javar Juarez (CUBNSC) Columbia, SC - This week, the Columbia Urban Broadcast Network had the privilege of stepping inside the vibrant headquarters of Columbia Fashion Week. Our visit included an engaging sit-down with the dynamic trio driving this cultural phenomenon: Juliette Muller, CEO and curator of Columbia Fashion Week; Darain Ginyard, Chief Marketing Officer; and Bella Belrose, stylist and creative director. As the anticipation builds for the grand Cola FW Met Gala at the Columbia Museum of Art on December 14, 2024, their insights painted a vivid picture of the creativity, dedication, and ambition propelling Columbia’s fashion scene to new heights.
Columbia Fashion Week A Visionary Leader: Juliette Muller
Since taking the reins of Columbia Fashion Week in 2019, Juliette Muller has been a driving force behind the event’s growth. Reflecting on her journey, she shared how her passion for fashion shaped her mission: to amplify Columbia's creative voices and carve out a unique cultural identity in fashion and art.
"Columbia has grown tremendously since 2019," Juliette marveled. "Our fashion vibe? It’s moody, liberal, and unique, yet it all harmonizes beautifully."
Under her leadership, Columbia Fashion Week has become a launchpad for local talent. From nurturing emerging designers to building platforms like the Top Model competition, Juliette’s work ensures Columbia’s creatives have the exposure and support they need.
When asked about the Met Gala, she described it as a night of whimsy and wonder:
“It’s an extraordinary evening of fashion and creativity, where guests can showcase their own couture while experiencing breathtaking runway showcases, delectable cuisine, and unforgettable entertainment.”
The Digital Visionary: Darain Ginyard
As Chief Marketing Officer, Darain Ginyard bridges the gap between Columbia and the global fashion stage. For Darain, fashion is more than just fabric; it’s a narrative.
"Columbia is the capital city with a unique style. We’re connecting our local scene with global brands, showing that if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere," he said.
A creative in every sense, Darain emphasized the importance of storytelling in fashion, from showcasing the art of a tailored suit to fostering inclusivity on the runway. This year’s Met Gala theme reflects his imaginative touch, inspired by Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz, and a palette of muted oranges, salmons, and other soothing tones.
"Peach Fuzz symbolizes belonging and recalibration," he explained. "This theme challenges attendees to express themselves boldly while embracing warmth and connection."
The Stylist Extraordinaire: Bella Belrose
Bella Belrose wears many hats—stylist, creative director, mentor—and her passion for fashion is palpable.
"Fashion has been my voice," she shared. "It’s how I express myself and help others find their own voice."
From scouting designers to curating collections, Bella ensures every runway moment dazzles. She encourages aspiring fashionistas to embrace color, experiment with thrifted treasures, and confidently explore their individuality.
Her mantra? "Know your body, know your shades, and never shy away from color."
The Met Gala: A Night to Remember
As the clock ticks closer to December 14, the Cola FW Met Gala promises to be a breathtaking culmination of a year’s worth of creativity and collaboration. Held at the magnificent Columbia Museum of Art, this glamorous affair is where high fashion meets high art.
Neutral tones will dominate this season’s palette, a nod to the growing popularity of quiet luxury. Yet, soft pastel shades like Peach Fuzz—described by Pantone as a hue that inspires calm and belonging—will bring a fresh, retro-inspired twist to the evening’s couture.
For those seeking style inspiration, the Cola FW team has curated a Pinterest board filled with ideas to ensure every attendee looks their best.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of this illustrious event. The Met Gala is more than a fashion show; it’s a celebration of Columbia’s culture, creativity, and community.
See you on the runway!
