In light of recent developments, the Juneteenth Leadership Marina Day Party originally scheduled for June 21, 2025, has been postponed until further notice.

This decision comes in response to escalating tensions and deeply troubling acts of politically motivated violence, including the tragic assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, and the targeted shooting that critically injured State Senator John Hoffman and his wife.
These brutal acts—justified by twisted ideologies that dare to invoke Jesus Christ’s name—remind us that radicalized violence cloaked in religion and nationalism remains one of the greatest threats to our democracy and collective safety.
We cannot ignore the chilling reality that those who seek to harm our communities have already made their move. Our decision is not rooted in fear but in wisdom, vigilance, and love for one another. We must always gather from a place of strength, not exposure. As stewards of the movement, we must know when to stand firm and when to prioritize safety in order to preserve our long-term impact and collective power.
Vance Luther, the suspected assailant, attacked Senator John Hoffman and his wife while they were at home—an act that underscores just how personal and premeditated these threats have become.
“Murderers will not enter the Kingdom of God.” We will not allow the rhetoric of hate, disguised as divine will, to distort the true teachings of justice, love, and unity.
Let it be known—this movement continues. We remain committed to information-sharing, collective strategy, and building coalition power across the Carolinas. As Dr. Barbara Sizemore once charged, it is our sacred duty to ensure the moral, physical, and spiritual health of our people, so that we may sustain ourselves and the next generation.
This work begins at home, with those closest to us. We heed that call now more than ever.
Together, let us continue to organize, worship, build, and protect our communities with intention. We are not discouraged—we are discerning. Our domestic enemies shall not prevail, for the spirit of Juneteenth lives on in us all.
“The best work that you could ever do is in your own home.”
Let’s keep building—together, smarter, and stronger.
