Grant was officially sworn in as the Representative for South Carolina’s House District 79. Grant’s inauguration is a testament to resilience, excellence, and progress, as he becomes only the fourth African American to hold this seat in the state’s history. The event was held in the majestic chambers of the South Carolina State House, where a distinguished crowd of elected officials, community leaders, faith leaders, and supporters gathered to honor the momentous occasion.
The program, rich with inspiring speeches and performances, was emceed by Mr. Joshua Ivy of Hot 103.9 Radio. The event opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by South Carolina's Future, a group of exceptionally bright and talented young individuals. Reverend Schrendria Robinson of Mount Olive AME Church and Bishop Simeon Moultrie of The Brook Church offered the scripture reading and invocation, grounding the event in faith and gratitude. Their words reflected the deep spiritual foundation that continues to guide Grant’s journey.
Touching remarks were delivered by several key figures who have played pivotal roles in Grant’s life and career. Among them was the legendary Mr. James T. McLawhorn, President and CEO of the Columbia Urban League, where Grant served with distinction for many years. Tyson Brown, founder of Project One Way Incorporated, and Alana R. Grant, the Executive Director of Richland County Public Education Partners and wife of Representative Grant, shared heartfelt reflections on his unwavering dedication to community and family.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Antjuan Seawright, CEO of Blueprint Strategies, who highlighted the importance of Representative Grant’s leadership for a new generation of South Carolinians. Seawright eloquently emphasized that Grant’s election represents not just a victory for District 79, but a symbol of hope and progress for the entire state.
The oath of office was administered by the Honorable Jocelyn Newman, South Carolina Circuit Court Judge, while the ceremonial charge to Grant was delivered by the Honorable Mia McLeod, former Representative for District 79, and the Honorable Ivory T. Thigpen, also a former Representative for the district. Their words underscored the significance of this historic moment and the responsibility now entrusted to Grant.
